Dave Elden sadly passed away on the 1st February 2005 at the age of just 49 years old, after bravely battling with illness for just over a year. He is fondly remembered within European drag racing and was a key member of Knut Söderquist's Carbon By Design Top Fuel dragster operation as a master specialist of the clutch. He was a multi-talented member of the team and always had a humorous quip to add to any conversation. Dave even involved his nephew Mark Turner in CBD team operations, who has since become Wizard of the Top Fuel clutch, himself. I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with the team during the 2003 and 2004 seasons and particularly during the 2004 Veidec nitro festival in Sweden - a time much enriched by Dave's wicked sense of humour.
I have picked through my photographs and have put together some pictures taken during the past couple of years as a personal tribute to Dave. A nicer person will be hard to find and I offer my sincerest condolences to Dave's family and to the CBD teams.

Dave's funeral took place on the 9th February 2005 at St. Lawrence's Church in Biddulph, North Staffs. There was hardly a spare seat to be had, as the Church was filled with family and friends. It was a tasteful and lovely service which celebrated Dave's life and his achievements. The vicar even shared some amusing anecdotes with us about when Dave was still a teenager and his parents were on holiday. Dave decided to surprise his Dad by re-spraying his car completely and fixing it up with new wheels. Just the sort of humorous antic that Dave would loved to get involved with throughout his life. Dave's sense of fun and humour will be sorely missed by one and all.
